Q

At a recent concert, I believe Nancy told me you were thinking of having yoga online. Have you ever tried something like Google Hangouts (Studio Mode) to stream a concert, or stream yoga classes?

Natasha Borzilova responded on 04/10/2015
A

I am so sorry for not answering this question sooner! I somehow overlooked it. It is still hard for me to wrap my mind around the concept of teaching yoga online because I would not be able to view the students and to be a good teacher, I feel one must be able to see the positioning of students in poses and assist with corrections. I am streaming an online concert on April 22 through Concert Window. Hope you can tune in!

Will you be performing in Connecticut?

Natasha Borzilova responded on 04/10/2015
A

It seems that most of my tour dates for this year are lining up for the midwest and the south. I want to get back to the northeast (I was in the Boston area for three shows last fall) but really have to plan enough dates to have it make sense for driving so far. I also will have to head that way when I can be sure it won't snow! :) For now, you will have to catch a live performance when I do my online show on April 22 through Concert Window. Hope you can tune in!

Growing up did you know English with your family in Russia ?

Natasha Borzilova responded on 04/10/2015
A

No, I started taking English in school but when I was in Bering Strait and we started touring around Europe I realized I needed to try and become a bit more fluent since English would be a more common language and so I hired a tutor as a teen. Within a few months he had me becoming conversational. Once I started coming to the United States with Bering Strait and then moved here, being totally immersed really helped the most. My mother does not speak English. Thanks for the question. Natasha

Hey Natasha, my question for you would be Do you feel there is a different view that being a mother has given you in the way you view your creative message?

Natasha Borzilova responded on 03/14/2015
A

Being a mother restricts creativity, in my opinion. It also makes you realize how petty your problems were before you had kids and how unsexy your problems have become since you had them. Writing gets tough.

Sorry it took me so long to answer. I will have to do better!

Q

Hi Natasha, great music..as a song writer do you have a formula for your writing? Do you write music to fit lyrics or lyrics to fit music..?? Do you play other instruments besides guitar???

Natasha Borzilova responded on 03/14/2015
A

Hello Christopher,
First of all, I can't believe how I have overlooked your question all this time! So sorry!

I don't have a formula. Sometimes music comes first, sometimes an idea. I have also written music to a complete lyric, but that happens very rarely. I can play any instrument that has strings and frets, but only after figuring out the notes. On my new album Wilder Days I recorded various guitars, banjo, mandolin, dulcitar, bass, keyboard and percussion.

What are your favorite Russian candies and Russian ice cream?

Natasha Borzilova responded on 03/14/2015
A

Assorted chocolate candies that come in a box, brand doesn't matter, but there have to be some with white creamy filling. I don't like ice cream. Thanks for the question. Sorry it took me so long to answer!

Q

What brought you to choose music as your path and what keeps you true on that journey?

Natasha Borzilova responded on 03/12/2015
A

I was enrolled at a very young age in a classical guitar program in a music school in Russia (which was then Soviet Union). As luck would have it, my teacher had put together a bluegrass band of other students and they did not have a singer so I became the singer and acoustic guitarist. The band evolved and later became Bering Strait. I almost quit trying to do anything with music but as a hobby in 2013 and as soon as I decided that, I had a creative spurt of songwriting and a new record was born and suddenly I am touring more this year than in a long time and feeling very good about making music on any level as it is such a deep part of who I am. I did have to reconcile that all the huge dreams I had as a young girl probably would not pan out as dreamed and now that is okay. Some of the songs on the new record address this. Thanks and sorry it took so long to answer you. Natasha

Q

How many guitars do you own?

Natasha Borzilova responded on 03/12/2015
A

Hi Larry,
As you can see, I am very tardy with my answer. I own my Guild 6 string and a Copley 12 string. I used to have a Martin which was stolen when I flew home to Russia with it by the airline. :(
